About the cave

  • Uhlovitsa Cave was explored by Studenets Cave Club, Chepelare, led by Dimitar Raichev. It is one of the oldest in the Rhodopes – over 3,500,000 years. A two-storey, precipice with a length of 460 m, the cave impresses with its numerous secondary cave formations. Among stalactites and stalagmites, dendrites make a strong impression – formations that will make you feel as if you are on the seabed. The landscaped part of the cave ends with a snow-white limestone waterfall and four sinter lakes, which fill with water in the spring.
  • The cave was officially opened for visits on September 8, 1984. The altitude at the entrance is 1040 m, and the displacement to the lowest point in the cave is 25 m. The temperature is constant – 10 – 11ºС. The length of the well-developed part is 330 m, which are traversed and 280 metal steps.
  • The entrance to the cave is reached by a steep path with a length of 800 m, followed by 190 metal steps. The displacement from the parking lot to the entrance is 160 m.
  • The cave is inhabited by 8 species of bats during the different seasons of the year.
