Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel

Belgium

The University Hospital Brussels (former name AZ-VUB: Academic Hospital VUB) is the hospital of the Free University of Brussels . It is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the VUB and works closely with the Healthcare Department of the Erasmushogeschool Brussel . These three, together with Health City, form the Medical Campus Jette . It is located in Jette , one of the nineteen municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region . The hospital was founded in 1977 from the VUB by the driving force of Frans De Pauw .

UZ Brussel has a regional function and is thus home to a MUG service, but also has a training function, for example for medical students of the VUB and nursing students of the Erasmushogeschool Brussel . Furthermore, scientific research is also carried out.

The hospital has 2875 employees and 721 beds and is good for 25,000 admissions and 400,000 outpatients every year . The language of instruction is Dutch and the hospital has a pluralistic vision.

It consists of a hospital for adults, with an outpatient clinic , and a children’s hospital . Especially the center for Reproductive Medicine is internationally known. It is pioneering reproductive techniques. For example, ICSI ( Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection ) was developed. However, there are still a large number of services, including the largest emergency service in Flanders.
