The University Hospital St. Marina – Varna (Bulgarian: Университетска многопрофилна болница за активно лечение “Св. Марина” – Варна) is a university hospital in Varna, Bulgaria.
The hospital has capacity of 1200 beds.
Short story
A few years after the establishment of the Higher Medical Institute in Varna, the idea of building its own medical building arose. The conceptual design envisages a surgical building and a main unit. The architectural plan is borrowed from French health facilities. On June 6, 1970, the first sod was dug. On December 28, 1986, it was finally handed over for operation as the Institute Clinical Hospital. Chief physician is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Ganchev. From December 1990 to February 1995 the chief physician was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Galabov. Since 1995, the hospital has been called Varna University Hospital. During the period 1995-2001 its chief physician and executive director was Prof. Dr. Krassimira Kisova. During the period 2001 – 2010 the Executive Director is Prof. Dr. Krassimir Ivanov. From 2010 to 2016 The Executive Director of UMHAT “St. Marina” is Prof. Dr. Janeta Georgieva. In the period 2016 – 2020 the executive director is Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov.
Since 2020, the Executive Director is Prof. Dr. Silva Andonova-Atanasova , MD.
Currently, the University General Hospital for Active Treatment “St. Marina” EAD – Varna is the largest diagnostic, treatment and consulting university hospital complex in Northeast Bulgaria, serving people from all over the country, which has over 1 3 80 beds , state-of-the-art equipment and highly qualified staff – university professors, national and regional consultants.
