SDU was founded in 1966 in a time of upheaval that characterized art, norms, institutions – and the higher education institutions. Politically, it was believed that universities should contribute to a much greater extent to the development of the welfare state by: “Promoting the empowerment that time requires.” Since its founding, SDU has been driven by an ambition to promote research results that develop society.

The challenges of the future in climate, welfare and health are complex and unpredictable, and it requires more than one profession and method to solve them. Therefore, many of our strategic research projects are interdisciplinary and students will find subjects on the forms that are composed of several faculties.
