The facade of the town hall dates from 1867 . Its allegorical statues are by Philippe Joseph Henri Lemaire , to whom we also owe some of the works of the Gare du Nord, in Paris. At the top sits a faithful reconstruction, by the sculptor Albert-Marius Patrisse , of the famous pediment by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux , Valenciennes defending its ramparts.

The Notre-Dame-du-Saint-Cordon basilica is the site of an annual pilgrimage. The basilica has many works of art and stained glass windows by Paul Ducatez.
In the park which adjoins the Saint-Géry church, the Watteau square, there is a fountain with in its center a statue of Antoine Watteau (born in this city, rue de Paris extended), due to Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, also a native from the city.
