Valjevo has great development potential. The relatively short distance from Belgrade (94 km), the intersection of highways, the proximity of the highway Belgrade – Požega (under construction), the railway Belgrade – Bar, represent a good infrastructural basis for economic development.
Today, Valjevo is a modern city, but also a city of rich history, tradition and culture. This is evidenced by the preserved city center with administrative buildings, public institutions and cultural monuments, the building of the National Museum and Valjevo High School, galleries, Grand Hotel, pedestrian zones and old shopping streets, small squares and parks, numerous monuments, Kolubara quay. In the center of the city, on the right bank of Kolubara, is Tešnjar – an authentic Serbian bazaar from the period of Turkish rule. It originates from the 17th century, but the appearance from the end of the 19th century has been preserved. Many domestic films and series were made in Tešnjar.
It is the first mountain you come across from Belgrade or from the direction of Vojvodina. In summer it is suitable for rest and recreational tourism due to the favorable air climate, and in winter for sports and staying in the snow. The whole range of Valjevo mountains attracts fans of off-road vehicles, cyclists, fans of canyoning and speleology, while the river Gradac is one of the most popular for fans of sport fishing (fly fishing) in this part of Europe.
The village of Brankovina stands out as an important tourist destination in the ethno-historical sense, while the monasteries of Lelić, Ćelije and Pustinja attract great attention of believers and pilgrims.
Valjevo began to develop and build with urban-architectural solutions from the middle of the 19th century with streets that intersect at right angles and characteristic modern buildings of that time. In addition, it is one of the few cities that can boast of being a city with two bazaars, one modern and the other dating back to the time of Turkish rule.
City Day is March 20, the date when Valjevo was liberated from the Turks in the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 and when the development of a modern city with European features began. As its spiritual holiday, the City of Valjevo celebrates Pentecost Monday.


DIVČIBARE
The favorable geographical position has contributed to the gravity of many city residents towards Divčibare, because they are the closest mountain tourist place to Belgrade and Vojvodina. Residential, health-recreational, sports-recreational, excursion tourism, and to a lesser extent hunting and fishing, have been developed in Divčibare.
The good geographical position conditions the arrival of air masses from the Adriatic Sea and the conflict with the air masses from the Carpathians and the Pannonian Plain, which explains the presence of iodine in the air. Spring and summer are short, winters are cold and long with abundant snowfall, and autumns are long and mild.

CHURCH IN MILIČINICA
Wooden church in Milicinica, Valjevo municipality, built in the period from 1791 to 1794. As one of the most important wooden churches in Serbia, it has become a model for many sacral buildings, both in terms of architectural creation and constructive-spatial solution, as well as decorative treatment of details. The log cabin church represents an immovable cultural asset as a cultural monument of great importance.
CHURCH VASKRSENJA GOSPODNJEG
The Cathedral of the Resurrection of the Lord is the main and largest Orthodox church in Valjevo. It is the central church of the Valjevo diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church. CHURCH IN NOVI NASELJE
In Novi Naselje, in 2000, the Vujica brothers, well-known Valjevo businessmen built a church dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George. Next to the church there is a parish home, as well as the Bishop’s Palace.
ĆELIJE MONASTERY
The Holy Monastery of Celija is located 6 km southwest of Valjevo, on the left bank of the river Gradac. Gradac is a submerged river that springs below the mountain Povlen, and after a few kilometers it sinks and erupts again near the village of Bogatić, above Ćelija, near Jako izvor.
JOVANJA MONASTERY
The monastery of Jovanja is located in the immediate vicinity of Valjevo, on the right side of the gorge of the river Jablanica, in the area of the village of Jovanja, (7 km) on the road to Poćuta and Bajina Bašta.
LELIĆ MONASTERY
Lelic Monastery is located in the village of the same name, on the territory of the town of Valjevo, 11 km away from the town. The monastery is the endowment of Bishop Nikolaj and his father Dragomir Velimirović.
PUSTINJA MONASTERY
The Pustinja Monastery is located not far from the center of the village of Poćute, at the entrance to the Pustinja Gorge, which was cut by the river Jablanica into the northwestern slopes of the Valjevo Mountains.

RIVER GRADAC
The river Gradac is the emerald pearl of western Serbia, which with its shades of green proves its clarity and purity. Although it has been declared the cleanest river in Serbia, it is considered to be one of the cleanest rivers in Europe. The river Gradac is the pearl of this region because of its beauty, beautiful canyon and even more beautiful nature, and on the other hand is the life of this region, because it gives it the purest drinking water. Here you will feel as if you are a part of nature, and the roar of the river is something that will make you always come back here.

The waterfalls of Taor are a natural monument located in the western part of Serbia, the massif of the Valjevo mountains, at the foot of the mountain Povlen. Taor springs erupt in the village of Donji Taor, where they flow into the river Skrapež, a tributary of the West Morava.




On the slopes of the Valjevo mountains with the most beautiful exposures, at an ideal altitude and in specific microclimatic conditions, more than suitable for growing vines, 20 hectares of vineyards have been planted.
