Vammala

Finland

Vammala is a former town and municipality of southwestern Finland, chartered in 1907. On 1 January 2009 Vammala was consolidated with the municipalities of Mouhijärvi and Äetsä, to form a new city named Sastamala.

Attractions

Rautavesi’s cultural landscape in the heart of Vammala is one of Finland’s national landscapes designated by the Ministry of the Environment . An essential part of this landscape is the medieval church of St. Olaf in Tyrvää in Tyrvää, Sastamala.

On the southern shore of Rautavesi, about three kilometers from the center, is the Vehmaanniemi Nature Reserve , which is owned by the Finnish Department of the World Wide Fund for Nature . The protected areas are also Karhunsaari in Kulovesi between Ellivuori and Kutala and Pirunvuori on the east side of Rautavesi.

To the south of the Kokemäenjoki watershed is the northwest-southeast ridge section , which starts in the Tyrväänkylä area and continues through Roismala north of Houhajärvi to Sammaljoki, Rautaniemi and further to Urjala. However, the terrain of the ridge has suffered from extensive gravel and sand uptake; although decommissioned sand pits have now been afforested. On the edges of the ridge, along road 2521 to Sammaljoki and Halkivaha , there are quite extensive bogs .

Along the regional road 301 leading from Vammala to Vesilahti, about 10 kilometers from highway 12, there is a joint border laundry of four municipalities (Tyrvää, Karkku, Tottijärvi and Vesilahti ). Near this has been located the so-called. Wizarding , which involves several folk tales. According to Seppo Suvanto, the border laundry itself is not the Wizard or the Wizard Carry, but the Alho. The name has been misread from the 1479 list (copy) of frontier laundry.
