Walloon fresco

Belgium

The Fresque des Wallons is a monumental trompe-l’oeil located in the Jardins du Maïeur in Namur ( Belgium ). Wall painting with a surface area of 330  m 2 , it refers to some 250 illustrious Walloons and to the old and recent history of Wallonia .

Characters and themes

The fresco presents some 250 famous Walloons and references to the history of Wallonia. However, it is impossible to draw 250 characters on this surface.

In the windows painted at the bottom of the fresco, at breast height, are presented books, event posters, CD-Roms, reproductions of photos and objects that evoke certain personalities through a detail. For example, a record cover side for Salvatore Adamo , a photo of the Paris metro for Édouard Empain , a dove for René Magritte, a racket for Jean-Michel Saive . Or a copy of Le Bon usage which evokes Maurice Grevisse  ; a saxophone , Adolphe Sax  ; a reliquary forHugo d’Oignies.

Other figures appear at the foot: Charlemagne , Blanche de Namur , Ernest Solvay , François Bovesse , Georges Simenon , Dominique Pire , the Namur stilt walkers , the marsupilami , a macrale and the painter Albert Dandoy.

The decoration of the commercial windows at the bottom of the fresco presents, by theme, allusions to sports, variety, cinema and folklore, ancient and contemporary history, technical sciences and industry. To literature, poetry, comics, painting, music and visual arts. With local products
