Fancy a trip to a winter wonderland? Thousands of shining lights illuminate Luxembourg’s capital at Christmas time!
Soak up the yuletide atmosphere at the many different traditional Christmas markets spread across the city. Sing along to carols, dance or just listen to choirs, orchestras and big bands. Skate under the stars, ride the big wheel and let the scents of mulled wine and gingerbread fill your nose in this cosy and never too-crowded capital.
“Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart” on the Place d’Armes
On the Place d’Armes is the “Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart”, the cradle of the Luxembourg Christmas markets. Among the band stand and many stalls selling colourful creations from jewellery to toys, the highlight is a wonderfully decorated 13m high Nordmann fir tree. A canopy facilitates social gatherings in a cosy atmosphere in any weather. Don’t miss the hourly Tree Light Show in the evenings.
“Knuedler on Ice” on Place Guillaume II
“Knuedler on Ice” is a crowd puller every year and turns the Place Guillaume II in front of the town hall into an enchanting festive scene, complete with ice skaters circling the glittering ice rink to lively music.
“Wantermaart” on the Place de la Constitution
Around the impressive golden statue “Gëlle Fra” on the Place de la Constitution you can’t miss the “Wantermaart”. It transforms what is already one of the capital’s most spectacular squares, with a wonderful panoramic view of the Petrusse Valley and Adolphe Bridge. At Christmas, you can take the 32m high and Ferris wheel to see the views from up above and literally look the beautiful Golden Lady in the eyes.
Plenty of fun for kids too; giant trampolines, carousels and other rides promise a lot of fun.
