Krasnal Piernikarz (Gingerbread Dwarf)
Piernikarza Dwarf is the guardian of Piernikarnia Wrocławska in 5 Kurzy Targ Street in Wrocław.
At that time, in the nearby town of Świdnica, an article was written about the local gingerbread makers: “piperatas tortas facientes”, i.e. ‘making spicy cakes’. And so began the story of gingerbread from Lower Silesia, which Piernikarz Dwarf tells us about. Later Wrocław became the main centre of the Lower Silesian gingerbread craft. The tradition of gingerbread baking in Wrocław dates back to the 16th century. The gingerbread makers of Wrocław became independent in the 18th century, forming their own guild.
He dreamt of gingerbread with chocolate, nuts, fruit and probably even with jam. You should know that Piernikarz Dwarf can never have enough gingerbread, and even when he is deeply asleep, he sweetly dreams about gingerbread. During his long sleep, he became so hungry that he was awakened by the aromas coming from our Gingerbread House. He ate all the gingerbread we had and, in gratitude for the feast, decided to stay with us and restore the tradition of gingerbread baking in Wrocław.
