Ylöjärvi is a town and a municipality in the Pirkanmaa region, 14 kilometres west of Tampere and 189 kilometres north the capital city Helsinki in Finland.
The town has a population of 33,350 and covers an area of 1,324.14 square kilometres of which 208.62 km2 is water. The neighbouring municipalities are Hämeenkyrö, Ikaalinen, Kihniö, Nokia, Parkano, Ruovesi, Tampere and Virrat.
Attractions
Ylöjärvi’s attractions include Villa Urpo ( home of publisher Urpo Lahtinen and the Lehtimiehet Oy’s representative office founded by him ), Teivo’s racetrack (which replaced Hippos in Tampere’s Kaleva ), Puuvuori , which consists of 10,000 planted trees, representing environmental art, and Ylöjärvi Museum. The Local History Museum has 11 buildings, the oldest of which is from the 18th century. Ylöjärvi has four churches and two prayer rooms: Ylöjärvi Church , Kuru Church , Viljakkala Church , Pengonpohja Prayer Room andLänsi-Teisko Church (prayer room). Antaverkka has the Finnish Museum of Refrigeration Technology, founded by Paavo V. Suominen , the mountain councilor of the Huurre company , and the St. Michael’s Chapel built by him next to the museum. In addition, Ylöjärvi has the Ylinen Church , owned by the Ylinen Service Center , which was originally completed as a grain warehouse in 1921 and consecrated as a church in 1963.
Sports and exercise
Ylöjärven Ilves is a special sports club founded in 1990, known as a hobby and competitive sports club with the main sports being football and futsal. Ylöjärvi Athletes is a sports club from Ylöjärvi that works in athletics, skiing, swimming, orienteering and fitness. Uplakers is a club that works in hockey, figure skating and ringing. Ylöjärven Ryhti operates in the areas of volleyball, powerlifting, skiing, frisbee golf and football. The power of the lining background (VuVo), works in boxing.
Companies and associations
The most well-known companies in Järöjärvi include Avant Tecno and Huurre Group Oy’s refrigerated furniture factory. Plastiroll Oy manufactures garbage and bio bags as well as garbage bags.
In the legal field near the Hämeenkyrö border, Outokumpu Oy ’s Paroinen copper mine operated in 1943–1966 , which was one of the municipality’s most significant employers at the time. The former mine has housed the Defense Forces Research Institute since 1967 .
Of the associations in Ylöjärvi, Rantajätkät organizes various events, the most famous of which is Räikkärock to be held in the summer.
Education and library work
The city of Ylöjärvi has four primary schools with only primary school (grades 1-6): Mutala, Siivikkala, Takamaa and Vahanta schools. The Kuru, Viljakkala, Metsäkylä and Ylöjärvi United Schools, as well as the Kauraslampi and Vuorentausta schools, have both upper and lower secondary schools. There are a total of ten primary schools.
In addition, the city has a high school and the Tampere region vocational college Tredu , which offers vocational undergraduate degrees in the fields of machinery and metal, social and health care and business administration at Valo Training Center. In addition to the national curriculum, Ylöjärvi High School offers an opportunity to deepen the student’s vision and knowledge of the possibilities of social influence and entrepreneurship. There is a separate Y-line in the high school.
Ylöjärvi’s main library Leija, designed by architect Tero Harjuniemi , was completed in 2002. The 80-meter glass wall of the library hall opens to Kuruntie.
